Computer Bits... (it's X rated... hehehe XD)

Suppose you are going to buy a computer...
Here are a few things you should consider...

  1. Processor- Make sure that the processor has at least 2.80 GHz (gigahertz)speed. This is not really important unless you like playing games on your "new" computer.
  2. Random Access Memory (RAM)- Look for a 256MB in a DDR (double data rate) RAM or a 512 DDR RAM.
    - a DDR RAM is twice as fast as a SD RAM (synchronous dynamic random access memory). This is because the DDR RAM transfers data at both the rising and falling of the cycle, whereas the SD RAM only transfers on the rising of the cycle. Thus, it is better to have a DDR RAM. This aslo means that DDR RAM is good for video and it also helps the computer perform better.
  3. Hard Drive- The hard drive is where all the programs are stored. It is good if there is around 80 GB of space.
  4. Monitor- There are two types of monitors.
    -
A CRT (cathode ray tube) which is the most common. The CRT is big and bulky. They are commonly found to be in sizes varying from 17 to 16 inches. These monitors cost around $100-$300.
    - An LCD (liquid crystal display) is now the new "hip" thing. It isn't bulky and is has a really high resolution, colour and display. LCD's size vary from 15 to 17 inches. These monitors cost around about $250-$300 for a 15 inch screen, while a 17 inche screen cost around $400- $550.
  5. Mouse- There are two types of mouses (mice 0_0). The optical and the roller ball.
Optical- the mouse has excellent tracking (it doesn't stuff up as much as a roller ball mouse).
    - it can be used both as a wireless and wired, but either way it still is works well.
    - the down side: batteries have to be changed at least every 3 months if it is wireless.
    - cost: around $40
    Roller - very cheap: $10
    - it tends to fall apart or accumulate dust over time

    - it can only be used one way: WIRED!!! (grrr...)
  6. CD drives- if you're into copying music onto CD's, burning movies for friends and stuff like that, then make sure that the computer you buy has the following:
    - CD-RW drive- that reads and writes CD's
    - DVD drive- plays both CD's and DVD's
-DVD-RW drive- can read and write on both CD's and DVD's
  7. Keyboard- it can be wireless or wired but it doesn't really matter.
  8. Whole Systems- if you buy a whole system i.e. the whole computer with the CPU, monitor, keyboard etc. make sure that it has a long warranty and it has all or most of the above

Good Luck and I hope I have helped you
