New Assignment- The Scratch Files

Hey there!!

It's term four and we (my IST class) have a new assignment!!
We have to create a computer game using a program called Scratch.
Instead of typing in code the codes are already set up in vlocks and we just have to put them in the order I want it in.

Sometimes it gets really complicated...

Problem... Why on the lastday?!?!?!

As I said in my last post, I'm putting external links onto my wiki

BUT...
I don't know what happened but as I saved, I think it (wikispaces) logged me out
So my work didn't save!!!

It's already finished though and I sort of remember what websites they are...

LAst Day

Today is when the wiki and blog is due...
I just thought that I'd add some last minute stuff

I just added some external links to my wiki which might help if some of the stuff doesn't make sense but it's all good...

I think it's a bit stuffed up but it's all good....

Last lesson I also added a video from www.dailymotion.com
It's about the different flash drives that a company made....
They look like SUSHI!!! But the guy calls it "USB"

Anyway, I think I'm done XD

Uploading videos

I'm so lost!!!

I don't know how to put a video onto my wiki...
I sort of know how to do it but all the options don't show up on the menu thingo which is sort of gay because the vidoe I'm going to put on is from www.dailymotion.com but the only options are youtube, google videos or some other thing...

I'm soo super lost right now

HELP!!!

What's happening??

This week is the week that our wikis are due.
We have all finished or are finishing up our sections of the wiki but honestly I haven't finished yet because of the problem I mentioned earlier....
But now I'm nearly finished, (the last question!!!!) now I just need to find the website where I had the information...

Back on track

Today I am working double time on my wiki...
After my last problem with the wiki I have worked out how to overcome it with the help of my very intelligent friends and group members Jess and Sarah...
They both advised me to print screen (the key next to the F12 key) the wiki page just in case it doesn't save...

It really helps... trust me :) XD

Glitch with my Wiki

I have encountered a problem while working on my wiki space.

The first problem is that I have inserted a picture of an iPod to show what they look like but it has been postioned in the wrong place. The problem is that I cannot delete the picture and re-position it.

The second problem is that all the work that I wanted to be the finished product is gone, but luckily I sort or remembered what websites I have used to gain my information.

I'm soo dead... :(

What am I doing today?

Today I am working on my wiki page on flash drives.

As you know from my last post a flash drive is completely different from a USB. That is the most common mistake people make. Flash drives have different capacities of memory.
Flash drives have a memory ranging from 128MB (megabytes) to 2GB (gigabytes) and over.

I hope this post helps when you need to use a flash drive

What's the difference??

What's the difference between a USB and a flash drive??

A USB is just a port where any periferal device such as a flash drive or a mouse can be plugged into.
A flash drive is a portable RAM drive.

Does some of this stuff not make any sense?? Go to http://www.howstuffworks.com/ to see what some of this computer babble is all about

Computer Bits... (it's X rated... hehehe XD)

Suppose you are going to buy a computer...
Here are a few things you should consider...

  1. Processor- Make sure that the processor has at least 2.80 GHz (gigahertz)speed. This is not really important unless you like playing games on your "new" computer.
  2. Random Access Memory (RAM)- Look for a 256MB in a DDR (double data rate) RAM or a 512 DDR RAM.
    - a DDR RAM is twice as fast as a SD RAM (synchronous dynamic random access memory). This is because the DDR RAM transfers data at both the rising and falling of the cycle, whereas the SD RAM only transfers on the rising of the cycle. Thus, it is better to have a DDR RAM. This aslo means that DDR RAM is good for video and it also helps the computer perform better.
  3. Hard Drive- The hard drive is where all the programs are stored. It is good if there is around 80 GB of space.
  4. Monitor- There are two types of monitors.
    -
A CRT (cathode ray tube) which is the most common. The CRT is big and bulky. They are commonly found to be in sizes varying from 17 to 16 inches. These monitors cost around $100-$300.
    - An LCD (liquid crystal display) is now the new "hip" thing. It isn't bulky and is has a really high resolution, colour and display. LCD's size vary from 15 to 17 inches. These monitors cost around about $250-$300 for a 15 inch screen, while a 17 inche screen cost around $400- $550.
  5. Mouse- There are two types of mouses (mice 0_0). The optical and the roller ball.
Optical- the mouse has excellent tracking (it doesn't stuff up as much as a roller ball mouse).
    - it can be used both as a wireless and wired, but either way it still is works well.
    - the down side: batteries have to be changed at least every 3 months if it is wireless.
    - cost: around $40
    Roller - very cheap: $10
    - it tends to fall apart or accumulate dust over time

    - it can only be used one way: WIRED!!! (grrr...)
  6. CD drives- if you're into copying music onto CD's, burning movies for friends and stuff like that, then make sure that the computer you buy has the following:
    - CD-RW drive- that reads and writes CD's
    - DVD drive- plays both CD's and DVD's
-DVD-RW drive- can read and write on both CD's and DVD's
  7. Keyboard- it can be wireless or wired but it doesn't really matter.
  8. Whole Systems- if you buy a whole system i.e. the whole computer with the CPU, monitor, keyboard etc. make sure that it has a long warranty and it has all or most of the above

Good Luck and I hope I have helped you

Printers

Laser vs. Inkjet...

The printer I have at home is an Inkjet Brother MCF-215C. This model prints in both colour and black and white which is practical for the whole family. The printer takes approximately 5- 10 seconds to print in black and white and approximately 15-20 seconds to print in colour. But, then again it also depends on whether or not there are parts which are in colour and parts that are in black and white.
Personally, I think that this machine is pretty good. Aside from the fact that it is inkjet (which I don't prefer), it is actually pretty good. The cartridges are of a reasonable price and because we hardly print (assignments and important documents only XD) it stays off most of the time.
The ink cartridges cost around $30 for black ink only and around about $74 for a pack of four colours.

I hope you get intersted in getting an Inkjet Brother MCF- 215C...
(but get it in laser hehe XD lol...)
